## What the exhibitions showed

Alabama's narrow win followed two other exhibition victories and offered a final preseason test against an in-state rival. The rebounding margin was decisive: 19 offensive boards repeatedly extended possessions in a game separated by only two points, underscoring the value of Alabama's 24 second-chance points. Purdue's margin was more comfortable. The Boilermakers combined perimeter shooting with control of the glass, and the scoring spread among West, Mayer and Cox gave the team multiple options before games begin to count. Both programs now move into their regular-season schedules with the exhibition results excluded from their official records. The two games offered different preseason tests: Alabama had to close a one-possession rivalry game, while Purdue sustained a wide margin on the road.
