Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, is the first Englishman to win the men's award since Michael Owen in 2001, Reuters reported. Putellas' third women's Ballon d'Or equalled the record held by fellow Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí, according to BBC Sport. Putellas won the 2025–26 treble and the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona before joining London City Lionesses in July, Reuters reported. ## A prolific season for Kane

Kane scored 61 goals in 51 matches for Bayern across all competitions in 2025–26 as the club completed a German league and cup double, according to Reuters. He also scored six times at the World Cup, where England reached the semi-finals. Reuters reported that he finished the season with 73 goals for club and country. The award adds an individual distinction to the team trophies Kane has won since leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern in 2023. ## DAZN coverage and a London anniversary

DAZN announced that it would broadcast the ceremony free in 200 markets. Availability was subject to territorial exclusions, and the Ballon d'Or organiser published a country-by-country guide to local broadcasters. The ceremony has now concluded; viewers should check their local service for any available replay. The 70th-anniversary ceremony moved to London for the first time as a tribute to Stanley Matthews, the English footballer who won the inaugural award in 1956. France Football and UEFA have co-organised the event since 2024, according to UEFA. Specialist journalists vote on the main awards rather than the streaming audience, the organiser says.
