## Foster takes control late

O’Shaquie Foster knocked Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete down twice in the 12th round and won a unanimous decision Saturday night in San Antonio, unifying three major super featherweight titles. Foster kept his World Boxing Council belt and took Navarrete’s World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation titles after the 12-round bout at Frost Bank Center. The judges scored it 118-108, 118-108 and 115-111, according to promoter Top Rank and independent reports from CBS Sports and Sky Sports. Navarrete beat the count after both knockdowns and finished the fight, but the closing round confirmed the points advantage Foster had built. Top Rank said Foster used movement and counterpunching to keep the Mexican from landing cleanly, then grew more willing to trade as the bout progressed. CBS Sports likewise described Foster as controlling the distance and selecting when to engage, limiting Navarrete’s pressure and making the challenger work for openings. ## A major change at 130 pounds

The result changes the division’s title picture. Foster entered as WBC champion and left with three major titles at 130 pounds. He said he wants to pursue undisputed status, which would require winning the remaining major belt. The 33-year-old Orange, Texas, native improved to 26-3 with 12 knockouts, while Navarrete fell to 40-3-1 with 33 knockouts, Top Rank reported. Navarrete had entered as the unified WBO and IBF titleholder. Foster’s counterpunching and defense shifted the fight away from the high-volume exchanges Navarrete typically seeks, according to CBS Sports and Sky Sports. Navarrete acknowledged after the bout that Foster’s style had worked better that night. The loss ends his run with both belts, while Foster now has the chance to seek the last title needed to become undisputed at super featherweight.
