The Pistons scored the first 11 points, led throughout and built a 23-point third-quarter advantage. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Heat with 36 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, but Miami shot 38.2% from the field and 29.4% from three-point range, according to Reuters. Charlotte committed 27 turnovers and made 11 of 51 three-point attempts. The Hornets had opened the season by beating Brooklyn 110-103, with Grayson Allen scoring 21 points off the bench and Naz Reid contributing 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. The Heat allowed Minnesota to score 41 first-quarter points in the opener, then surrendered a 38-point third quarter to Detroit. Coach Erik Spoelstra said before Saturday's game that the team was working to establish its mentality and collective resolve. Hornets coach Charles Lee said the team needed to place more value on each possession and create better uncontested attempts. Brandon Miller began the season 4-for-25 from three-point range through two games, although Lee expressed confidence that the shots would begin falling. Those details should come from the NBA's official box score and independent postgame reporting rather than from a changing live scoreboard. Until then, the confirmed story is a matchup between two teams attempting an immediate recovery from damaging home defeats.
