## A club record in France

Luis Suárez became Sporting CP’s outright leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League after scoring away to Lens on October 13, the Portuguese club announced. Sporting says the Colombian striker reached seven goals in the competition in its colors, moving beyond a six-goal mark he had shared with three other players. The club names Liedson, Viktor Gyökeres and Francisco Trincão as the players previously tied with Suárez. Its announcement concerns Sporting’s own Champions League scoring list. It does not describe an all-club competition record or a record combining Suárez’s goals for every team he has represented. ## The mark he was approaching

Earlier on Tuesday, Portuguese outlet Leonino identified the record as one of the milestones in reach at Lens. It put Suárez on six goals in 13 Champions League appearances for Sporting and said another goal would leave him alone at the top. The club’s later announcement establishes that the anticipated milestone was achieved. Leonino’s pre-match account said Gyökeres reached six goals in eight appearances, Liedson in 15 and Trincão in 26. Those appearance totals distinguish the players’ routes to the shared mark. They do not change the club’s newly announced ranking by total goals, which now places Suárez first. [2](https://leonino.pt/sporting-pode-viver-noite-historica-em-lens-e-ha-tres-recordes-em-jogo)

## Form and the European setting

Sporting says Suárez scored five times in the previous Champions League campaign, including goals against Napoli and Club Brugge. Leonino’s preview also described seven consecutive scoring appearances before the Lens fixture. The accounts provide separate European and recent-form context for the Colombian forward, rather than treating those different scoring totals as the same statistic. Lens’ official match page identifies the October 13 meeting as the second league-phase fixture at Stade Bollaert-Delelis. It recalls Sporting’s 3-1 opening win over Galatasaray and Lens’ 3-2 victory at Slavia Prague. This update reports the striker’s confirmed milestone; the sources used here do not establish a final result for the Lens match. [3](https://www.rclens.fr/fr/rc-lens-sporting-cp)
