Boxer Frank Martin stopped Tarik Zaina in the seventh round of their super lightweight bout on Oct. 24 in San Antonio, Texas. Martin landed a left hand that rocked Zaina, followed with a right that sent him down, and continued throwing after Zaina got back to his feet. The fight was part of the undercard for O’Shaquie Foster’s junior lightweight title unification bout against Emanuel Navarrete at Frost Bank Center. It marked Martin’s debut with promoter Top Rank. The promoter listed Martin’s record at 20-1-1 with 14 knockouts after the win, and Zaina’s at 18-4-1 with 12 knockouts. [1] [2] [3]
Martin returns to the win column
The stoppage came after Martin fought to a unanimous draw against Nahir Albright in February. The Ring reported that Martin controlled much of the early action against Zaina, landing cleaner shots through the first six rounds before finding the sequence that ended the fight. The win returned Martin to the victory column after the draw, and represented his first appearance under Top Rank’s banner. [2] [3]
The Ring’s account said the matchup had added history: Martin and Zaina had sparred three times before meeting in an officially sanctioned bout. CompuBox credited Martin with landing 86 of 310 punches, compared with 51 of 241 for Zaina. The Ring also reported that Zaina had previously lost eight-round unanimous decisions to Delante Johnson and Rohan Polanco in 2024. [2]
