Nvidia pushes back on end-of-life reports

Nvidia has denied reports that it stopped producing the GeForce RTX 5090, its flagship consumer graphics card, even as the product remains difficult to find through normal retail channels. Jeff Fisher, Nvidia’s senior vice president overseeing its GeForce business, told reporters after an Oct. 16 event in Taipei that the RTX 5090 had not been discontinued and that shipments would continue. [1] [2]

Fisher acknowledged that supply-chain capacity was constrained but said Nvidia was working to get the product onto the market. Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that he described the RTX 5090 as an important part of Nvidia’s lineup and reiterated the company’s commitment to gaming, the business from which its broader accelerated-computing platform developed. [1] [2]

Scarcity fueled the rumor

The denial followed reports based largely on supplier chatter and social-media posts claiming that Nvidia would end RTX 5090 production and reserve its GB202 processors for higher-priced RTX Pro workstation cards. Those reports did not include an Nvidia announcement or other primary confirmation, and Fisher directly rejected their central claim. [1] [3]

The market conditions behind the speculation are real. Tom’s Hardware found the card missing from Nvidia’s U.S. marketplace and from several major retailers, while third-party sellers were asking prices far above Nvidia’s original $1,999 launch price. The publication said Nvidia had not answered its separate request for an official comment, making Fisher’s remarks to Taiwanese reporters the clearest on-record response available. [3] [4]

Limited listings do not by themselves establish that a product has reached the end of its life. Nvidia’s own product page continued to describe the RTX 5090 as a current Blackwell-generation card with 32GB of GDDR7 memory, while Fisher said the company intended to keep supplying it. Neither Nvidia nor Fisher provided shipment volumes, a restocking timetable or a date by which availability might improve. [1] [4]

What buyers still do not know

The distinction matters for buyers deciding whether to wait for inventory or pay inflated resale prices. Nvidia has denied discontinuation, but its statement does not guarantee that Founders Edition cards or partner models will return broadly at the suggested retail price. Until the company or retailers publish firmer allocation details, the verified position is that production continues while supply remains constrained. [1] [2] [3]
