Powerball rolls over to estimated $562 million after October 12 drawing

Powerball’s jackpot has risen to an estimated $562 million for the October 14 drawing after no ticket won the October 12 jackpot, according to the game’s official website. Monday’s white-ball numbers were 22, 28, 38, 51 and 69, with a red Powerball of 9 and a 3x Power Play multiplier. ^[1]

The advertised prize and the cash option

The national game site lists the next drawing’s cash value at $230.4 million. The headline jackpot and cash payment are different options: jackpot winners may choose an annuity consisting of 30 graduated payments over 29 years or a lump sum. Both advertised amounts are before federal and jurisdictional taxes. ^[1]

Virginia Lottery’s current results page independently displays the same October 12 numbers, Powerball 9 and 3x multiplier. It also lists Wednesday’s estimated jackpot at $562 million, with its cash figure rounded to $230 million. That rounded display is consistent with the more precise amount on the national site. ^[2]

Draw schedule and ticket checks

Powerball drawings take place Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time. The official site says sales deadlines vary by jurisdiction, generally one to two hours before the drawing. Monday’s results therefore concern an already completed drawing; Wednesday’s advertised prize remains an estimate for the next one. ^[1]

Virginia’s page provides a ticket-number checking tool and links to claiming instructions. It lists jackpot odds of one in 292,201,338. Those odds accompany the game information and do not change the identity of Monday’s drawn numbers or establish that any individual ticket is a winner. ^[2]

What the multiplier does

The official prize chart distinguishes the jackpot from lower-tier cash prizes. A ticket matching five white balls with Power Play wins $2 million, regardless of the multiplier shown. California’s prize amounts are determined by sales and the number of winners, so national fixed-prize descriptions do not uniformly apply there. ^[3]
