  • She pleaded not guilty to state assault charges and was released on bond.
  • Her representatives said she experienced a medical emergency and did not intend to harm anyone.

Arrest after the flight landed

Actor Selma Blair was arrested after flight attendants reported a physically abusive passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York, the Port Authority police department said. Reuters reported that officers took Blair into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport and transported her to a hospital for evaluation. [1]

Two flight attendants reported injuries and one was taken to a hospital, according to the police account cited by Reuters. The allegations have not been proven in court. Delta said it has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior and emphasized passenger and crew safety. [1]

Charges expand after landing

During Blair’s arraignment in Queens, prosecutors also accused her of kicking a police officer involved in the arrest and kicking a nurse at the hospital, Reuters reported. ABC News said the criminal complaint charged her with two counts of second-degree assault under New York law. [1] [2]

Blair pleaded not guilty. A judge set bail at $20,000 cash, $60,000 bond or a $60,000 partially secured bond, and she was later released, according to ABC News. The case was adjourned until January 19, 2027. The charges remain accusations unless established through the legal process. [2]

Representatives cite a medical emergency

A representative said Blair experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct and was in stable condition after receiving care. In a later statement reported by The Guardian, her team said she did not intend to harm anyone and linked the episode to pseudobulbar affect, a condition that can cause involuntary emotional expression. [1] [3]

Blair has publicly discussed living with multiple sclerosis since her 2018 diagnosis. Her representatives criticized coverage they considered sensational and asked that the evidence and medical context be reviewed before conclusions are drawn. Their explanation is the defense team’s account and does not resolve the criminal allegations. [1] [3]

What remains unresolved

The next scheduled court date is in January. Police, prosecutors, the airline and Blair’s representatives agree that a serious disturbance occurred, but they describe responsibility and medical context differently. Further court filings and any federal aviation review will determine what happens next; no final finding has been made. [1] [2] [3]
