Summary

  • Advisories run from 10 a.m. PDT October 15 to 8 p.m. October 17.
  • Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo coastal zones are included.
  • Orange County and coastal San Diego also face upper-80s to mid-90s heat.

New dates for the heat risk

The National Weather Service’s October 13 bulletins place parts of Southern California under heat advisories from 10 a.m. PDT Thursday, October 15, through 8 p.m. Saturday, October 17. Los Angeles/Oxnard forecasters expect temperatures up to 95°F in affected coastal and inland-coastal zones, including downtown Los Angeles and parts of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. [1]

San Diego forecasters issued the same advisory window for Orange County’s coastal and inland areas and coastal San Diego County. Their bulletin anticipates temperatures from the upper 80s into the mid-90s, with Friday expected to be hottest. The forecasts describe specified zones rather than identical conditions across all of Southern California. [1]

Heat and wind overlap

A separate wind advisory covers the Malibu Coast and Ventura County coastal areas from Thursday morning to Friday evening. The service forecasts northeast winds of 20–30 mph, with gusts of 35–55 mph. Its bulletins warn of heat illness and possible wind-related disruption, and recommend fluids, air-conditioned shelter and checking on relatives and neighbors. [1]

Driving concerns from earlier heat

ABC7’s October 6 reporting on the earlier heatwave highlights another practical concern: tire condition. The California Highway Patrol urged drivers to inspect tires for worn tread or cracking before setting out. The report recommends making checks before driving, when tires are cold, rather than after prolonged exposure to hot pavement. [2]

CHP officer Jordon Church told ABC7 that warm pavement, rising tire pressure and poor vehicle maintenance can combine to make driving more hazardous. That earlier report supplies safety context, but its warning dates belonged to the previous heatwave. The current advisory period is the October 15–17 window in the fresh National Weather Service bulletins. [2]
