Al Sadd seek continental response against Lucescu’s former club Al Hilal

The continental fixture

Al Sadd entered their October 13 AFC Champions League Elite meeting with Al Hilal seeking a first win after a heavy opening defeat. The Asian Football Confederation’s pre-match account described the contest as a meeting of former continental champions, with Al Hilal pursuing a second league-stage victory. ^[1]

Al Hilal’s official fixture list places the match at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on October 13 at 19:00 local time. The scheduled home fixture gives Al Sadd an opportunity to respond in front of their supporters. The listing establishes the venue and timetable, rather than a result or a confirmed match outcome. ^[2]

Al Sadd’s preparation

The Peninsula’s October 13 preview said Al Sadd lost their continental opener 3-0 to Esteghlal. It also reported a 3-2 domestic defeat against Al Arabi on the preceding Friday, ending a run of four league victories. Together, those setbacks formed the immediate background to coach Razvan Lucescu’s preparations. ^[3]

Lucescu guided Al Hilal to the Asian title in 2019. The Peninsula reported that he reviewed Al Sadd’s domestic defeat and worked on concentration lapses and individual errors before the continental match. ^[3]

Defender Paulo Otavio emphasized securing a first continental victory and the value of home support, the newspaper reported. The match also reunites Lucescu with his former club. ^[3]

Training updates

The Peninsula reported that Sergej Savic returned to Al Hilal group training after rehabilitation, while Hamad Al-Yami participated in the opening part of a session before continuing rehabilitation. Salem Al-Dawsari remained in treatment. Those pre-match training updates should be distinguished from an official starting lineup or confirmation of minutes played. ^[3]
