Oracle applications move toward ChatGPT

OpenAI and Oracle expanded their enterprise partnership Tuesday with plans to connect Oracle applications and governed business data to ChatGPT. Oracle AI Workspace is intended to let employees ask for information and complete approved workflows spanning finance, procurement and planning while retaining their organization's existing permissions and approvals. [1] [2]

The companies describe the product as an agent-ready workspace rather than unrestricted access to company systems. OpenAI said the aim is unified sign-in, simpler administration and controlled access. Availability details, pricing and a final launch schedule were not specified in the announcements. [1] [2]

Security, app building and a small-business bundle

Oracle also announced AI Security Mesh, a managed service intended to use OpenAI cyber models to find and help fix vulnerabilities in authorized applications and infrastructure. Another offering, App Composer, is designed to help teams build internal applications with Codex and connect them to approved Oracle data and workflows. [1] [2]

An Oracle AI SMB Bundle will combine ChatGPT Business, Codex, Oracle applications and recurring Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits. The bundle targets smaller companies that want one procurement path for software, AI coding tools and cloud capacity, though businesses will still need to configure access controls and review AI-generated actions. Distribution through Oracle Marketplace

Oracle customers in the United States can purchase the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace using existing procurement processes and eligible Universal Credits. That distribution route may reduce contracting friction for organizations already standardized on Oracle purchasing and cloud accounts. [1] [2]

Oracle reported 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users internally. It also said a recruiting research task that once took two to four days can now be prepared in 15 to 20 minutes. Those are Oracle's own operational figures; customers should measure results on their own data, controls and workflows. [1] [2]

Governance will determine usefulness

Connecting an AI assistant to finance, procurement or recruiting systems can shorten research and coordination, but it also expands the consequences of a mistaken answer or action. Organizations will need least-privilege access, approval steps, audit logs, data-retention rules and tests that distinguish read-only assistance from transactions that change records. [1] [2]

The partnership's appeal is that many of those controls already exist in Oracle applications and procurement channels. Its challenge is preserving them across a conversational interface. Customers should ask which data is sent to models, how prompts and outputs are retained, what administrators can restrict and how failed actions are detected and reversed. [1] [2]
