Funding for expansion and game creation

Matiks, a Bengaluru-based social gaming startup, has raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding as it prepares to expand internationally and develop a platform that lets users create and share their own brain games. General Catalyst led the round, joined by entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures, the company said. TechCrunch reported that the financing brings Matiks’ total funding to more than $13.5 million. [1] [2]

The company says it will initially prioritize the United States, while also investing in engineering, artificial intelligence, product development, design, game creation and global distribution. Its planned AI-powered creation engine is intended to let users build and publish games without coding; the tool is a future product plan, not a capability the company says is already broadly available. A competitive take on brain games

Matiks organizes its games around math, puzzles, memory and logic. Players can practice against bots before competing with other people, and the app also offers challenges, quests, streaks and points. The format aims to make short mental exercises social and competitive rather than presenting them as conventional lessons, according to TechCrunch’s review and interview with co-founder Sudhanshu Bhatia. Matiks reported 2.2 million monthly active users in September and more than 300,000 daily active users, up from 22,000 earlier in the year. Those are company-reported figures. The startup also said it recorded 48 million games played during September, a level of activity that helps explain why investors are backing a larger push beyond its home market. [1] [2]

Why the U.S. is a key test

The U.S. is among the markets where Matiks has already seen early traction, alongside South Korea and Japan, TechCrunch reported. YourStory said the company intends to focus first on U.S. expansion before moving into other major markets. The plan puts the startup in competition for attention with mobile games, puzzle apps and other quick-play products, although neither outlet reported a U.S.-specific user total. [1] [2]

Matiks has also begun testing a subscription that adds game analysis, practice tools and other features, while offering in-app purchases, TechCrunch reported. Its next phase will test whether a large audience for free competitive play can translate into durable revenue while the company introduces new games and creator tools. The funding announcement does not disclose a valuation or a timetable for the AI creation engine’s full launch. [1]
