The wait is over

The wait for James Reece’s next mission is over: all eight episodes of The Terminal List Season 2 began streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Chris Pratt returns as the Navy SEAL commander in a continuation that shifts the franchise from the first season’s revenge-driven psychological thriller toward a globe-spanning espionage story. [1]

The release closes a long gap for viewers. The first season debuted in 2022, and the series was renewed for a second season in 2023. Speaking to PEOPLE at the new season’s Oct. 20 premiere in New York, author and co-creator Jack Carr said the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes contributed to the delay. Though the strikes lasted roughly seven months, Carr said the production lost about a year overall. He also pointed to Pratt’s other commitments as a factor in the extended timeline. [2]

A broader story, with familiar faces

Season 2 draws on True Believer, Carr’s second novel about Reece, and picks up after the protagonist has completed his revenge list. According to Prime Video’s season overview, Reece travels from the Indian Ocean across Africa, the Middle East and Europe as he uncovers a conspiracy connecting Moscow and Langley—and reaching into his own family history. The new setting broadens the show’s scale while keeping its central character, still reckoning with the consequences of his past, at the center. [1]

Several familiar faces return: Constance Wu plays journalist Katie Buranek, Tom Hopper is former SEAL Raife Hastings, Dar Salim returns as Mohammed Farooq and Luke Hemsworth plays CIA contractor Jules Landry. The expanded ensemble adds Gabriel Luna, Arnold Vosloo, Olga Kurylenko, Costa Ronin, Yul Vazquez, Martin Sensmeier and others. [1] [2]

What the long gap means for the franchise

Carr told PEOPLE that the additional time also meant the returning cast and crew had a chance to deepen their working relationships. He praised Pratt’s approach as the production’s lead, saying the tone set by the person at the top of the call sheet affects the wider crew. [2]

Prime Video says The Terminal List franchise has accumulated more than 100 million viewers worldwide. That figure offers a measure of the audience the streamer hopes to bring back after the hiatus; it does not mean a third season has been ordered, and no renewal has been announced. For now, subscribers can watch all of Season 2 at once, while newcomers can start with the 2022 original or the 2025 prequel, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. [1]

Season 2 is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, MRC and Civic Center Media. Carr and showrunner David DiGilio are among its executive producers, alongside Pratt, Antoine Fuqua and others. [1]
